Mumbai: In the build up to next month’s Indian Premier League (IPL) auctions, the player retentions on Thursday threw a lot of surprises. Chennai Super Kings (CSK), making comeback after a two-year ban retained three key players in the form of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Suresh Raina and Ravindra Jadeja.

A few predictable picks were of Team India stars Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli who were retained by as skippers by franchises Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore respectively. While teams made sure they headed into the auctions with their best foot forward, KKR’s decision of choosing to retain West Indies duo of Sunil Narine and Andre Russell over skipper Gautam Gambhir garnered a lot of debate.
