Balvinder Singh Sandhu praises Shirke, Anurag

Supreme Court removed Anurag Thakur, Ajay Shirke from the post of BCCI president and secretary respectively.

Mumbai: In what came as a big blow for Board of Control for Cricket in India, Supreme Court removed Anurag Thakur and Ajay Shirke from the post of BCCI president and secretary respectively. While the time seems gloomy for the duo, former India cricketer Balvinder Singh Sandhu, has praised Thakur and Shirke for their work.

Sandhu, who was a part of India’s World Cup-winning squad in 1983, coached Maharashtra Ranji Trophy coach when Shirke began his career in cricket administration.

"Ajay is a good administrator. He always did good for the game of cricket and stood out with his no-nonsense approach," Sandhu told Mid-Day.

"He changed cricket in Maharashtra in a way and ensured the game was looked after better than earlier at the district level. I reckon he did a good job with Maharashtra and Indian cricket. Remember, he resigned (as BCCI treasurer) on principle when the spot fixing scandal broke out. Ajay was very approachable and if you disagreed with him, you could tell him so on his face,” Sandhu added.

Sandhu also said that Thakur was a good administrator.

"Anurag too is a good administrator. Unfortunately, he got into the mess of BCCI politics. He had to support his colleagues," concluded Sandhu.
