When Ashish Nehra told Sourav Ganguly not to worry' and helped India beat Pakistan

India completed their first ever win over New Zealand in T20s, with Nehra's final spell reading as 0-29 from four overs.

New Delhi: As Ashish Nehra bid adieu to his cricket career after India’s 53-run win over New Zealand in the first T20 here on Wednesday, tributes and well wishes had started pouring in from his fans, current and former cricketers. On Thursday, Yuvraj Singh had posted a long message on Facebook sharing his memorable moments with the 38-year-old pacer.

Just before Nehra’s final match on Wednesday, former India cricketer and teammate Hemang Badani took to Facebook to share a video, where he recalls his fondest memories with the Delhi pacer.

In the video, Badani recalls a moment during an ODI against Pakistan in 2004, where Nehra was told to bowl the final over, with the Men in Green requiring nine or 10 runs in the final over. "I remember one such incident which was in 2004, the epic India vs Pakistan series in Karachi.

"We scored about 350. Pakistan needed about 9 or 10 of the last over and there was a bit of confusion at the ground as to who is going to bowl the last over and Nehra standing at fine-leg at that point of time runs in to Sourav and he says, 'Dada (Sourav), mein dalta hoon, aap daro mat.

"Mein match win karke dunga' and as things may fall in and things would happen he just gave 3 of the over, got the wicket of a set Moin Khan and won us the game," he says.

India went on to win the match by five runs, with Nehra finishing with a spell of 1-58 from 10 overs.

Here is a full video of what he said.
