Rohit Sharma shatters this unique record on day 1 of Ind vs SA Test series

Mumbai: When it comes to comparing Don Bradman with any other cricketers in the world, no one comes close to the greatest batsman of all time. Even, Sachin Tendulkar and Steve Smith are lagging way behind the extraordinary Australian cricketer.

During the 2019 Ashes, Steve Smith showed his prowess in Tests by smashing 774 runs from seven innings, but the former Smith fell few runs short of breaking Bradman’s record of most runs against England in the Ashes. After Smith failed to break the Aussie great’s record, it became evident that no one is, was and will be equal to Sir Donald Bradman.

However, during the first day of the first test match between India and South Africa, India’s new Test opener, Rohit Sharma has equalled one of Bradman’s great numbers. After hitting his return and maiden Test ton as an opener, the 32-year-old made history by becoming the first Test opening batsman to have an average of 98.22.

Thus, at the end of Day 1, the ‘hitman’ equalled Bradman’s average. Moreover, this is the highest average for a batsman after playing a minimum of 10 Test innings.

Despite saying that the ODI vice-captain has equalled one of Bradman’s records, it would be foolish to compare Rohit with the legendary Australian batsman as the newest Indian Test opener has a lot to prove in the longest format of the game. But, Sharma has the ability to show his prowess in Tests.
