Women’s Cricket T-20 League to begin from August 4

Playing in front of a good crowd will boost our confidence and will help us tackle pressure situations much better.

BENGALURU: Karnataka’s first-ever Women’s Cricket T-20 League (WCL) will begin from August 4 . The five-day event will have of four different teams which include players who have represented the country at the international level. Final would be conducted on Thursday, i.e. August 8.

Approved by the Karnataka State Cricket Academy, the tournament is being organized by Ocean Vibrance, a Bengaluru-based event management company, in association with professional women cricketers. All the four teams will play two matches per day in the round robin format with white balls at the turf ground Samprasiddhi Sports Estadio, near Reva University in Bengaluru.

Ms Sunanda Jaiprakash, founder & Managing Director, Ocean Vibrance, said, “Women’s cricket is currently witnessing a phenomenal change with many initiatives aimed at improvising the visibility for the game and women cricketing talent. We are of the view that there must be more platforms to promote women’s cricket in the countrty. There is a lot more for us to achieve at the international level compared to other countries, and therefore initiatives like these are important.”

Players like Veda Krishnamurthy, Akanksha Kohli, Rajeshwari Gyakwad, Rakshita K, Divya Gnananand and many more will take part in the tournament. The four teams are Narmada, Sindhu, Kaveri, and Yamuna.

Rakshita, Team Narmada’s captain, said: "Tournaments such as WCL will help us to get more exposure and confidence. Playing in front of a good crowd will boost our confidence and will help us tackle pressure situations much better."

Divya, one of the star players and captains, said playing alongside players like Veda and Rajeshwari will improve their game. "They have played at the highest level for a long time and come with a lot of experience.

We can interact with them and learn from them how they prepare for a game and get ready to tackle each challenge," she said.
