England fans continue to tease Smith, Warner despite requests; see tweets and video
Mumbai: Steve Smith and David Warner returned to international cricket scenario after serving a one-year long ban for their alleged involvement in the sandpaper gate scandal in South Africa last year.
However, their return weren’t embraced by the English fans as the duo got booed during the World Cup Warm up match against England and during their official World Cup match versus Afghanistan.
The England fans continued to mock the pair despite the requests made by the Australian coach, Justin Langer and England cricketer, Moeen Ali. The English fans took the mocking to another level when they dressed up in a sandpaper outfit. A twitter sharing the same image tweeted, “Omg. People are dressed as sandpaper hahah lol, I’m guessing to taunt Warner and Smith???.”

See the two people on the middle balcony? They’re watching David Warner dressed up as giant sheets of 3M sandpaper, rubbing a giant cardboard cricket ball against themselves. #CWC19 #AFGvAUS pic.twitter.com/01IBlk4xaQ

Huge boos for Australia in general and Warner in particular at the cricket. Well done Bristol, keep these old traditions up. #warnerwatch

Despite the fans’ continuous booing, the Australian pair continued to score runs ignoring the mocking chants as Warner played a sensible knock of 89 along with the Aussie skipper, Aaron finch who scored a vital 66 to steer Australia to an easy win over Afghanistan.
