Sunil Narine, mental boost for West Indies in World T20 final

Sunil Narine could not make it to the West Indies' side for ICC World Twenty20 after being banned for suspect bowling action.

Kolkata: West Indies’ smart cricket steered them to the final of the ICC World Twenty20 but they had to endure a series of upheavals leading up to the tournament. Star off-spinner Sunil Narine’s ban for suspect action is one such episode that hurt them given the spin-friendly wickets in India and his IPL experience. But no worries, the 27-year-old from Trinidad is already here – as a supporter and a well wisher.

Narine is going through a tough time in his cricketing career as well as personal life but his spirits aren’t down.

He recently lost his father and at the same time, undergoing a rehabilitation programme to clear the line before the forthcoming IPL season.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) – his franchise – is leaving no stone unturned to help him in the process.

“He has been training in the Jadavpur University ground in Salt Lake,” confirmed a source close to KKR.

“We are not aware of his plans but he is likely to attend the World T20 final on Sunday,” the source added.

Narine could have added polish to the West Indies’ spin attack along with Samuel Badree as he is familiar with the Eden wicket.

“The KKR camp is starting around April 6. Hence, Narine flew down,” said the source.
