Don't judge Virat Kohli on attitude: Kapil Dev
Chennai: Virat Kohli’s aggressive celebrations and on-field antics have drawn mixed responses, but the legendary Kapil Dev said the current India skipper should be judged on his performances rather than his attitude.
“Was Dhoni being quiet good or bad for the game? Every leader comes with his own thinking. As long as he is performing on the field, giving good results, it is fine. Judge him based on the performance on the field. As long as India are winning, that’s what I look for,” he added.
With a 2-1 lead, India are on the cusp of winning their first ever Test series down under. Apart from Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara, the pace trio of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohd Shami and Ishant Sharma have been brilliant this series.
India’s first World Cup winning captain showered praise on India’s current bowling attack.
“When a group of good fast bowlers come at you hard they will always be very difficult to play,” said Kapil.
The legendary all-rounder said India have developed a set of exciting fast bowlers and it was a result of the country’s cumulative effort over the last 15-20 years.
“In the last 50 years, no other India team have done so well in the pace bowling department.
“I have never seen this culture of an Indian fast bowler coming out and playing so hard. It is good to see this change. It is the fruition of the last 15-20 years of hard work. We have set the benchmark very high and now you will find more fast bowlers coming through,” said Kapil.
“If there is just one good fast bowler in the side, the opposition will come up with a plan to play him out. West Indies had four fast bowlers and they never let you relax for even five minutes. When all bowlers come out and attack, it will come down to the batsman’s temperament,” added Kapil who will turn 60 on Sunday.
