300 against England not the turning point of my career: Karun Nair

Karun Nair became the sixth youngest cricketer, and the second Indian to score a triple ton in Test cricket.

Mumbai: Karun Nair may have taken the cricket world by storm with his unbeaten 303 against England in the Chennai Test, last month, but the Indian batsman believes it was a different knock that played a crucial role in turning his career around.

The 25-year-old became the sixth youngest cricketer, and the second Indian to score a triple ton in Test cricket, helping India register a 4-0 win over England in the five-match Test series.

He also joined the likes of former Australia player Bob Simpson and West Indies legend Sir Garfield Sobers as the third cricketer to convert his maiden century into a 300.

However, when asked about the one turning point in his career, Nair decided to pick out another triple ton that he had scored in the final of the 2014/15 Ranji Trophy. Nair’s 328 in that match helped Karnataka retain the Ranji Trophy.

“In that season I didn’t get many runs, even though I got the starts. Obviously, it was a final of the Ranji Trophy, so to go there and get the triple hundred was an amazing moment,” Nair was quoted as saying in Outlook India.

“Yes, you can say that it was a turning point in my career,” he continued.

However, the 300 against England has not changed much with regards to his preparations for future tournaments, says Nair.

“Expectations are going to be higher, but I don’t think I should worry about that. My goal is to go out and give my 100 per cent,” said Nair. “Going forward, I am going to do the same things and the preparations are going to be the same.”
