IND vs SA 1st Test: Rohit Sharma hits first century as Test opener
Mumbai: Ro‘Hitman’ Sharma hits his first century in Tests as an opener. He managed to achieve the feat in 154 balls. After an early bump, Sharma wasted no time in getting back to what he does best, scoring plenty of runs.
There was a lot of debate earlier whether or not he could perform in the longest format, but he has managed to prove himself in the ongoing match. Rohit Sharma was not given a chance at the top-order owing to his lower-than-average performance in red-ball cricket.
But, this time around, he was allowed a shot as an opener, thanks to his stupendous form in white-ball cricket. He replaced KL Rahul in the ongoing Test series against South Africa.
Sharma’s Test record at home is marvellous, having scored 769 runs in just nine matches which included three centuries at a stupendous average of 85.44. But, it is his overseas statistics which keeps him down. He has an average of just 26.72 and has scored only 816 runs in 18 Tests.
