Divide gets deeper at the top of HCA

While secretary T. Sheshnarayan contends his powers have been usurped, president G. Vivekanand claims they are only going by the rule book.

Hyderabad: The rift between the secretary and president of the Hyderabad Cricket Association has widened after the latest Apex Council meeting held on Monday. While secretary T. Sheshnarayan contends his powers have been usurped, president G. Vivekanand claims they are only going by the rule book. The divide is deep, and direct.

On Tuesday, Shesh released a lengthy statement that read: “I am being harassed by three members (president Vivek/ treasurer Mahender/ vice-president Anil Kumar) of Apex Council, they are trying to illegally take away all my powers as secretary. They have subjected me to humiliation by instructing the staff to disrespect me or my orders. Even yesterday I was asked to leave the Apex Council meeting of which I am the Convenor. I am amazed and devastated at their brazen conduct. I seek the intervention of the Chief Minister who is our Chief Patron to protect me and the institution. I also demand an inquiry by the government into the functioning of this society in the interest of cricket loving public.”

Vivek rebuts the charges. “He has lost his authority as per the new bye-laws adopted at the Special General Meeting (SGM) held in January that clearly define the roles of each member of the Apex Council. The High Court has agreed to it. He has to understand that he has no role to play and start accepting that — it’s the CEO who steps in according to Lodha Committee recommendations,” he said.

Shesh contends “the appointment of CEO is against norms prescribed by the Lodha Committee” though.

With regard to the direction of the High Court to convene a SGM by second week of June to amend the HCA constitution to bring it in conformity with the Lodha Committee recommendations, Vivek says “the judgement is clear that only amendments to the bye-laws need to be added and we are committed to doing it.”

Vivek also laughed off claims of harassment. “His dissent is being recorded. Should he have a problem with the functioning of the Apex Council, he should go to the Ombudsman — there’s a grievance redressal mechanism in place,” he said.
