Indian cricket team support staff says no to BCCI's 25 percent salary raise
Mumbai: Indian cricket has witnessed unprecedented success in the last one year. The Test team reached the top of ICC Test rankings with a formidable streak of victories against New Zealand, England and Bangladesh this home season.
The Virat Kohli-led side has won last six Test series consecutively, and have displayed all the traits of being a well-oiled machine. While head coach Anil Kumble has played the role of a mentor perfectly, support staffs including batting coach Sanjay Bangar and fielding coach R Sridhar have also played a crucial role behind Team India’s success.
The team management would obviously not prefer any sorts of interruptions, but it has come to light that support staffs including Bangar and Sridhar have refused a 25 percent raise offered by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), according to a report in the Indian Express.
The support staffs have turned down the offer as they were promised a 100 percent rise by former secretary Ajay Shirke and former president Anurag Thakur. However, the new administration under the Supreme Court appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) has revised the salary raise, which is below the expectations of the support staff members.
According to the report, Kumble is paid Rs 6.5 crore annually, while the support staffs are paid grossly under that.
