Australia set to create history in New Zealand

For the first time in 123 years, an Australian domestic cricket match will be held on foreign soil.

Christchurch: Cricket Australia and New Zealand Cricket are set to turn over a new leaf keeping aside the Trans-Tasman rivalry. New South Wales and Western Australia will take on each other in a historic Sheffield Shield match in Lincoln (New Zealand) at the Bert Sutcliffe Oval (Lincoln) on Wednesday.

It is the first time in 123 years of cricketing history that an Australian domestic match will be played on foreign soil.

The populace in the outskirts will witness Nathan Lyon, Adam Voges and Peter Nevill in action.

The Aussies, also scheduled to play the Black Caps in an ODI series followed by two Tests, will get a taste of the conditions.

“It’s a great opportunity to adapt to the conditions over here. From a batting point of view, the more runs I can score this week obviously the better I’ll feel going into the Test series,” Voges told Cricket Australia.

“It's a very important game in terms of the Shield competition,” he added.

The limited-over series between Australia and New Zealand, known as Chappell Hadlee ODI series, will also start on Wednesday.
