Is Sri Lanka vs India series Lasith Malinga's swansong?
Colombo: Star Sri Lanka pace bowler Lasith Malinga revealed, on Thursday, that he is mulling over retirement after a slew of poor performances for the national side.
Sri Lanka have been completely battered by Indian in their home series, as the visitors ran away with a 3-0 clean sweep in the Test series, and an unassailable 4-0 lead in the five-match ODI series.
The home side has lost all of its matches on this tour so far.
Malinga, who has been struggling with a longstanding leg injury, revealed after Sri Lanka’s 168-run loss at the hands of India on Thursday in the fourth ODI, that he has been thinking about retiring from international cricket, as he has not been able to perform consistently at a high level.
"I'm playing after 19 months following a leg injury. In the Zimbabwe and India series I couldn't play well. I'll see where I'm at after this series, and evaluate how long I can play given the way my body is,” Malinga said after the match.
"No matter how experienced I am, if I can't win a match for the team and do what the team needs, there's no point in me being here. I'll see if I can make up for that 19 months and regain that form over the next 3 or four months," he concluded.
