BCCI cannot plan for future in AGM, says Lodha panel
Mumbai: While the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have been given the green signal to go ahead with their Annual General Meeting (AGM), the Lodha committee have imposed certain restrictions on the meet.
The Supreme Court-appointed panel had issued a number of guidelines for the BCCI to amend its existing rules. According to the recommendations, BCCI could not hold an AGM unless it made the suggested amendments.
However, India’s apex cricket governing body decided in a working committee meeting, that they will hold their AGM on September 21. The board had also filed a First Compliance Report with the Lodha panel.
The panel in it’s turn, accepted BCCI’s proposal to hold an AGM in September, but also said that the board may only discuss routine matter at the meet. This means that the BCCI cannot make any future plans.
“The First Compliance Report submitted by the BCCI Secretary on 25.08.2016 was considered, and it was decided to direct the BCCI that the AGM to be called on 21.9.2016 be limited only to routine business concerning the past year (2015-16), and deal with any business or matters relating to the next year (2016-2017) only after the adoption of the MoA and Rules as per the recommendations of the Committee in accordance with the same,” the Lodha committee’s statement said
This however, is a point of standoff between the two parties, as the BCCI were looking to elect a new honourary secretary at the upcoming AGM. The Lodha panel has also recommended that the BCCI replace its working committee with a nine-member apex council, according to The Indian Express.
According to reports, Ajay Shirke is set to remain as the BCCI secretary for now.
