BCCI receives over 2000 applications for Team India\'s head coach position: Report

Mumbai: The Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) has received over 2000 applications for the post of head coach of the Indian cricket team. However, there is a lack of big names in the applicants, which could have possibly serve as a threat to incumbent Ravi Shastri, as per a report in Bangalore Mirror.

The report also states that former Australian all-rounder Tom Moody has also applied for the role. Former New Zealand and current Kings XI Punjab head coach Mike Hesson has also sent his application for the role. Robin Singh and Lalchand Rajput are among the Indians who have applied for the role.

Mirror also reports that BCCI may take more time to evaluate all the names as many international applications were sent by the agents of the aspirants. It has also been confirmed that former South African cricketer Jonty Rhodes had also applied for the role of fielding coach of Team India.

The Indian coaching staff, including chief coach Ravi Shastri, was handed a 45-day extension after the World Cup 2019, even though their contract ends with the showpiece event. Besides Shastri, the support staff also includes assistant coach Sanjay Bangar, bowling coach Bharat Arun and fielding coach R. Sridhar.

The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) led by World Cup-winning captain Kapil Dev has been entrusted with the responsibility of selecting India's new coach. CAC co-member Anshuman Gaekwad said that they will go in with an open mind when they sit down to interview the short-listed candidates.
