Ball tampering: Steve Smith's father dumps cricket kit in family garage; watch video

Smith broke down on Thursday during an emotional press conference on his arrival in Sydney, and was confronted by his father.

Sydney: Suspended Australia cricketer Steve Smith’s father Peter has dumped the former’s cricket kit in the family garage, it has been revealed.

The former Aussie skipper, along with David Warner was suspended for a year due to their involvements in a ball-tampering scandal during the third Test against South Africa. Meanwhile, Cameron Bancroft, to, was given nine-month suspension following the incident.

"He'll be fine, he'll survive, he'll survive," Peter was quoted saying to Seven News.

Following the ban, the trio were sent back to Australia.

Smith broke down on Thursday during an emotional press conference on his arrival in Sydney, and was confronted by his father.

In the press conference, he had said that he took full responsibility for what had happened.

“I'm the captain of the Australian team. It's on my watch and I take responsibility for what happened last Saturday,” he had said.

Tim Paine is currently leading Australia in Smith’s absence and the Aussies are busy playing the fourth Test against South Africa in Johannesburg.
