Bumrah Won't Feature in All Five Tests, Says Agarkar

Bumrah led as a Vice- Captain in Australia, he is more important to us as a player, rather have him bowling, then the pressure of 16 players, Agarkar said

Mumbai: Indian cricket team fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah will not be available for all five Tests in the upcoming series against England, BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar said.

"Not all five tests, physios and doctors have told us, we will see how the series goes and even 3-4 matches he will win it for us. You have seen what he is doing in IPL, we are happy he is part of the squad" said Agarkar at the press conference.
"Bumrah led as a Vice- Captain in Australia, he is more important to us as a player, rather have him bowling, then the pressure of 16 players. We had a chat with him. More workload management and having him fit as a player" he added.

The BCCI on Saturday appointed Shubman Gill as India's new Test captain while Rishabh Pant was named his deputy, starting with the five-match series in England next month.

The selectors decision on the team's leadership was on expected lines following the retirement of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Young left-hander B Sai Sudharsan earned his maiden Test call-up.

The squad also features Karun Nair, who returns to the national set up up after seven years. A notable exclusion was pacer Mohammed Shami, who was deemed not fit enough for the long series.

Squad: Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant, Yashasvi Jaiswal, K L Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Karun nair, Nitish Reddy, Ravindra Jadeja, Dhruv Jurel, Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Akash Deep, Arshdeep singh and Kuldeep Yadav.
