PV Sindhu's post to take time
While P.V. Sindhu has accepted the Andhra Pradesh government’s job offer as a Deputy Collector, it could be a long time before she takes up the post, according to government officials, since a special resolution is required for her to be handed the post.
Andhra Pradesh Principal Secretary for Sports L.V. Subramanyam said that a special provision to empower the government to give the job bypassing the Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission — that appoints such positions — needs to be invoked.
“The regulation has to first go through the general administration department, law department, revenue department and then the Chief Minister for approval. After that it needs the Governor’s approval and finally, the appointment will come in the form of a government order,” Subramanyam said without revealing how long the process could take.
Sindhu’s pay will be on par with other Class I (Group A) jobs, which could be anywhere between Rs 20,000 and Rs 50,000. Subramanyam also added that the intention of offering Sindhu this post is to inspire more youth to excel in sports.
In 10 years, Sindhu could become the Managing Director or Vice Chairman of the Sports Authority of AP, and could become a Secretary for Sports to the government in another five years. Within seven years of securing the post, she could be inducted as an officer in the Indian Administrative Services (IAS).
Sindhu, meanwhile, is happy about the offer. “I’m very excited to be landing a Group-I job. To get such a high-ranking post is a dream for any sportsperson. I’ll get to know the details of my role once I get my papers,” she says.
