Shivani Amineni in final of WTA Future Stars tourney
Hyderabad: Hyderabad girl Shivani Amineni made it to the finals of the WTA Future Stars tennis tournament being played in Singapore. On Friday, Shivani defeated Fitrina Sabatini of Indonesia 6-1, 6-2 at the Kallang Tennis Centre in the event held for Asia-Pacific’s Top Under 14 and Under 16 junior girls players. The tourney, organised by WTA prior to its year-end championship, is played on a league-cum-knockout basis, with the rising female talents from Singapore, New Zealand, China, India, South Korea, Australia, Japan and other countries divided into four groups of five each.
Pranjala in doubles final:
Meanwhile, another Hyderabad player, Yadlapalli Pranjala made the finals of the doubles event at the ITF Junior Grade 2 tournament at Nonthamburi in Bangkok, Thailand.
Pranjala and Zeel Desai defeated Denisa Hindova and Oona Orpana, a Czech Republic-Finaland combination 6-4, 7-5 in the semifinals. Earlier in quarterfinals, Pranjala and Zeel beat Irina Babkova and Anastasia Sukhotina of Russia 7-5, 7-5. However, Pranjala lost the singles quarterfinals to Sohyun Park of Korea 5-7, 4-6.
