Meghana Reddy, M Tarun are champions

The men’s final was a non-starter — Tarun got a walkover from Tarun Reddy.

Hyderabad: Hyderabad’s M. Meghana Reddy and M. Tarun of Khammam emerged women’s and men’s champions respectively at the 5th Telangana State Badminton Championship that concluded at the Railway Recreation Club courts here on Monday.

Fifth seeded Meghana defeated third seed Abhilasha, who retired from the match after losing the first game 11-21 and was trailing 0-1 in the second. Meghana was too strong for her rival in the first game and sealed it with ease.

The men’s final was a non-starter — Tarun got a walkover from Tarun Reddy.

Seedings held in the men’s doubles where the top two pairs reached the final. P. Sri Krishna Sai Kumar of Ranga Reddy partnered P. Vishnu Vardhan Goud of Hyderabad to come back from a game down and beat second seeds Aakash Chandran and B. Sai Rohith of Hyderabad with a 19-21, 21-15, 21-14 scoreline.

However, tables turned in the women’s doubles final where second seeded A. Abhilasha of Hyderabad & Gurazada Srivedya of Medak beat top seeds K. Bhargavi & K. Vaishnavi of Ranga Reddy 14-21, 21-18, 21-17.

The pattern continued in the mixed doubles final too as second seeds B. Navneeth and Sahithi Bandi of Medak got the better of the top seeded team of P. Sri Krishna Sai Kumar (Ranga Reddy) & Gurazada Srivedya (Medak) with a 17-21, 21-13, 21-14 verdict.
