Sub-Junior national badminton championships at Vijaywada: Local shuttlers on top
Local players hogged the limelight as they dished out sterling performances to finish in the top bracket at the 30th Sub-Junior national badminton championships at Vijaywada. Second seed Pranav Rao Gandham from Telangana continued his fine run as he stunned the top seed Sankar Muthuswamy S. 21-12, 21-16 to take the laurels in the boys singles Under 13 finals while local girl and top seed M. Meghana Reddy was overpowered by the third seeded Anupama Upadhyaya in the Under 13 girls singles title round, the scoreline of which read 21-19, 21-19 in Anupama’s favour.
In the Under 13 boys doubles finals local lads and second seeded pair of Vamsi Krishna Raj and B. V. Uneeth Krishna outclassed the top seeded native team of Pranav Rao and Sai Vishnu Pullela 21-16, 21-15 to take the title. Meanwhile, third seeded duo of Awantika Pandey and Anupama Upadhyaya dominated second seeded Shreeya Chitoor and S. Praveena in the girls Under 13 doubles finals 21-8, 21-16.
In the boys Under 15 doubles, top seed pair of Edwin Joy and Aravind V. Suresh maintained their spectacular form to outclass the second seeded pair of Bidyasagar Salam and Punshiba Yengkhom 21-19, 21-10. The girls made it a double in that age category as the second seeded team of Keyura Mopati and S. Kavipriya toppled the top seeded Karnataka pair of Ananya Praveen and Medha Shashidharan 21-14, 21-19 in the final.
In the boys Under 15, fourth seeded Tukum Laa lost the first game but doubled his efforts to prevail over Priyanshu Rajawat 18-21, 21-11, 21-16 in the finals while 11th seed Uthsava Palit upset sixth seeded Kavipriya 21-13, 19-21, 21-18.
