In an exclusive conversation on JioHotstar special ‘Kings of Kabaddi’, Gujarat Giants’ Captain Mohammadreza Shadloui speaks about unleashing his new skills and raising the bar higher in Season 12 of the Pro Kabaddi League. Already the first player in PKL history to win back-to-back titles, Shadloui now has his eyes firmly set on a monumental hat-trick, while promising fans a fresh, more dangerous version of himself on the mat.
On aiming for a historic hat-trick with Gujarat Giants:
“I have worked on some new skills this season, and I will show them on the mat. Winning back-to-back PKL titles was a big honour for me, and I’m very happy with that performance. But now I want more. I hope this time I can create history with a hat-trick of titles for Gujarat Giants.”
On his preparation and match analysis:
“I always study my opponents before stepping onto the mat. Two or three days before every match, I analyse hours of match footage and prepare for every situation. If a raider comes looking for a bonus, I’m ready. If he comes for a touch, I’m ready. Most times, before they even reach my side, I know exactly what they want to do. That is my strength.”
On his mindset and commitment to the team:
“For the raiders, it will be a big surprise; they should be very careful. They will see a different Shadloui this season. I will do everything for the team. Captain or no captain, it doesn’t matter. It’s not about titles or tags, I fight for my team. I can push myself to the limit. I’ll always be the best striker for my team.”
On his hunger to keep improving:
“I always want to do something bigger, something better. Being good is not enough. I’m happy with what I have achieved, but there is more to show. This season, fans will see why I’m called one of the best, but I won’t just say it; I will prove it on the mat. Aggression makes me play better. When I’m angry, nothing else matters; I just focus on winning the match. I’m happy to face big challenges against any opponent. That is what improves me, and that is what drives me.”
