TIRUPATI: The driver of a private travel bus died and 10 passengers sustained severe injuries when the bus travelling on the national highway near Sunnapubatti area of Dagadarthi mandal in Nellore district overturned.
According to reports, the sleeper coach bus was en route from Vijayawada to Chennai on Tuesday night when the driver lost control of the vehicle. The bus first rammed into the road divider and then collided with an oncoming lorry. This led to the bus overturning.
Bus driver Srinu (41) died on the spot, while 10 passengers suffered serious injuries. Alerted by locals, police rushed to the spot and shifted the injured passengers to a government hospital in Nellore using 108 ambulance services.
In another incident near Medarametla in Bapatla district, the driver of an oil tanker rammed his vehicle into a stationary container truck. Due to the impact of the collision, the oil tanker caught fire, trapping the driver inside and charring him to death.
The driver has been identified as Srinivasulu from Nellore district.
