20-Year-Old Man Stuck in Uppal Skywalk Lift For Nearly 2 Hours

Hyderabad: A 20-year-old man got stuck in an elevator on the Uppal Skywalk around midnight on Thursday and was rescued after more than two hours, allegedly due to a delay in the arrival of technicians. Rahul, was trapped in lift 6B at around 11.30 pm on Thursday after it stopped mid-way. He was allegedly unable to reach the authorities, prompting the passersby to contact the Uppal police.

After nearly two hours of rescue operations by the police personnel, firefighters and HYDRAA’s DRF staffers, Rahul was rescued from the elevator. He was given a precautionary medical check-up before he was allowed to return home.

Rahul informed the police that he is a heart patient and expressed distress over the lack of immediate action. Residents have also raised concerns and called for the implementation of proper safety measures to prevent such incidents from recurring.

Speaking with Deccan Chronicle, local security personnel said that the incident might have occurred due to a power outage.

"Most of the malfunctions happen due to power outages. When the power went out, he got stuck in the lift", one of the security guards at Uppal Skywalk stated. He also shared that most of the passersby do not experience any inconveniences while using the facilities of the skywalk.

This is not an isolated incident at the skywalk. In August of 2024, the lift stopped abruptly with three college-going students present inside. They were left stranded in the elevator for more than 45 minutes before being rescued by the police and the fire department. The students had initially contacted emergency toll-free numbers, but received no response from them, leaving them no other option but to call the cops.
