Youth Drowns at Yedu Bavula Waterfalls in Mahbubabad

Warangal: A 23-year-old youth went missing while swimming with friends at Yedu Bavula Waterfalls in Guduru mandal of Mahbubabad district.
According to Guduru circle inspector K. Babu Rao, the deceased was identified as Prem Kumar from Jinnaram village in Enkuru mandal of Khammam district. He and his friend had reached the waterfalls on Saturday through an alternate route to avoid police checks. While swimming, Prem Kumar went missing.
His friend Raju informed the police, who immediately launched a search operation with a rescue team. The effort was hindered at night due to darkness in the forested area, but on Sunday morning, the search resumed and the body was eventually recovered.
CI Babu Rao said flex boards had been placed at the waterfall warning visitors to stay away, especially during heavy inflows of floodwater. He added that a deep well near the waterfall posed an additional danger. “Many people have lost their lives here without proper knowledge of the risks. People should not attempt to visit or enter the water as there is no permission,” he cautioned.
Meanwhile, due to heavy rainfall in recent days and the resulting surge in water flow, several popular waterfalls have been temporarily closed to the public. Police and forest officials announced the closure of the Bheemuni Padam Waterfalls near Seetaphalnagar in Guduru mandal from Saturday, citing safety concerns. Similarly, forest officials ordered the closure of Bogatha Waterfall in Wazedu mandal of Mulugu district from Sunday, as the waterfall is flowing at dangerous levels and more rain is forecast in the coming days.
