Young Sarpanch Nikitha to Focus on RTC Bus, Better Drainage

Nikitha contested as a Congress candidate and secured a decisive victory, drawing widespread appreciation from villagers for her clean image and commitment to public service.

Hyderabad: Twenty-one-year-old Kavali Nikitha, a third-year MBBS student who won the Sarpanch election from Shakhapur (Y) village in Pebbair mandal of Wanaparthy district, is emerging as one of the youngest doctors to enter public service in Telangana.

The election was held as part of the third phase of local body polls. Nikitha contested as a Congress candidate and secured a decisive victory, drawing widespread appreciation from villagers for her clean image and commitment to public service.

Currently pursuing her MBBS at Government Medical College, Nagar Kurnool, Nikitha said she entered politics with the encouragement of her paternal uncle, Kavali Govindu, who once aspired to join politics but eventually became an advocate.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Nikitha said her village has no government transport facility and that her first request as Sarpanch will be for an RTC bus service. She also plans to submit representations seeking a Sainik School for the region.

Her father, Rajendra Prasad, works as a Deputy Tahsildar in the Revenue Department, while her mother, Chilakamma, is a government school teacher.

“Our village has problems with the drainage system and drinking water pipeline connections. I want to fix them. I have support from my professors and college, so I will balance my Sarpanch role and my studies,” she said.

“I did not think I would come this far, so any opportunity given to me, I will prove myself. As a medico, I will also conduct health camps and awareness programmes on malaria, dengue and other issues. I thank Wanaparthy MLA Megha Reddy and MP Mallu Ravi,” she added.
