Year-Round Flow Planned for Musi River: Revanth Reddy

Godavari waters to be diverted to Hyderabad over two years with ₹7,000 crore investment; first phase from Gandipet to Gandhi Sarovar to begin by March 31

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy announced ambitious plans to ensure year-round water flow in the Musi River. The government has invited global tenders for consultants to guide the Musi rejuvenation project, and three companies have joined forces under a joint venture to execute the restoration.

Under the plan, 20 TMC of Godavari water will be diverted to the city, with 15 TMC earmarked to meet Hyderabad residents’ drinking water needs and another 5 TMC planned for Gandipet. The estimated cost for diverting Godavari waters is ₹7,000 crore.

Development work will focus on the confluence of the Musi, Esi, and Godavari rivers. The Chief Minister said that within the next two years, Godavari waters will reach Gandipet. The first phase, covering 21 km from Gandipet and Himayatsagar to Gandhi Sarovar, is planned to commence by March 31, funded with ₹4,100 crore in NABARD loans.
