Women Must Emerge As Decision-Makers, Not Just Voters: Seethakka

WARANGAL: Women should not remain mere voters but must emerge as decision-makers who shape the future of the country, minister for panchayat raj, rural development and women & child welfare Dr Danasari Anasuya Seethakka said on Saturday.
Addressing the Nari Shakti Abhiyan training programme, organised by the Youth Congress in New Delhi, Seethakka stressed the need for greater participation of women in politics and urged young women leaders to take up leadership roles.
She said voting rights alone could not ensure political equality for women and called for equal opportunities to contest elections, participate in policymaking and play a role in governance.
“The voice of women must be heard strongly from gram panchayats to Parliament,” Seethakka said, adding that greater political participation by women would strengthen democracy and bring greater focus to social and family-related issues.
She also expressed concern over online trolling, personal abuse, obscene comments, misinformation, morphing and threats targeting women in public life. She said digital harassment aimed at silencing women was not merely an individual issue but a challenge to democracy.
Seethakka has called upon women to overcome fear, enter electoral politics with confidence and rise to positions where they could take important decisions and contribute to nation-building.
