Affair led to suffocation murder of government school teacher, say police

Hyderabad: Police arrested one Padma Naik and her lover Rathlavath Gopi for allegedly murdering her husband Laxman Naik, 38, at their house in Maruthinagar of Nagarkurnool’s Achampet. All three persons are government school teachers, police said on Thursday.

According to police, they received a complaint from the family of Laxman Naik who was found dead at his house on November 25, suspecting foul play. Police booked a case of death under suspicious circumstances and began investigations.

Initially, during questioning, Padma told the police that Laxman Naik had come home drunk on the night of November 24 and had gone to sleep. He did not wake up when she left for school the next day. She said she called home later in the day, and there was no response. She called the house owner, who checked and told her that Laxman was still in bed.
Padma told the police that she came home and found Laxman dead, and suspected that it could be due a heart attack. His body was sent for a postmortem examination.

The postmortem examination report stated that Laxman Naik had died due to suffocation. Police collected the call data of Padma and found that she was in touch with her colleague Rathlavath Gopi.

Police took them into custody for questioning. On examining their WhatsApp data, police came to the Padma might have conspired to murder her husband with Gopi’s help. Under questioning the duo confessed that they had murdered Laxman as they saw him as an obstacle to their affair. Police arrested Padma Naik and Gop on Thursday and produced them before a court.
