KARIMNAGAR: An elderly woman was allegedly abandoned in a dense forest by her own daughter after being robbed of her gold ornaments in Jagtial district.

District welfare officer B. Naresh told Deccan Chronicle that the elderly woman identified as Budhavva (75), was a resident of Islampura street in Jagtial town and had a daughter Eshwari who was living in Narsingapur after her marriage.

People in the neighbourhood said that two days ago, Eshwari took her mother to the outskirts of Sriramulapalle village in Gollapalli mandal under the guise of an outing and took Budhavva’s gold jewellery before abandoning her mother and absconded.

Meanwhile, a local youth from Sriramulapalle noticed Budhavva roaming aimlessly in the village. Concerned, he approached her and checked a bag she was carrying with an Aadhaar card and a phone number. When he called the number, he couldn’t get clear details about her family though he learned she had a daughter named Eshwari who lives in Narsingapur.

The young man tried to trace her daughter but was unsuccessful. As it was already 11.30 pm, he offered Budhavva food and shelter for the night at his home. However, by morning, she had wandered off again.

She was later seen near the Guttaboru area, continuing her disoriented journey in the scorching sun. “Locals who went for work under rural employment noticed her and alerted welfare officials, who rescued her.

Due to extreme hunger and dehydration, Budhavva was in a semi-conscious state and unable to give more information. She appeared physically weak and in poor health. She was immediately shifted to the Sakhi Centre in Sriramulapalle and later admitted her to the Jagtial district government hospital for medical treatment, he added.

Meanwhile, when officials from welfare department went to Narsingapur where Budhavva’s daughter Eshwari lives, her house was locked. Police registered the case and started an investigation.
