Woman Stages Hunger Strike, Alleges Refusal To Marry After Three-Year Relationship

The woman alleged that Srikanth had gained her trust with a promise of marriage and subsequently became physically intimate with her, but was now refusing to marry her.

WARANGAL: A Dalit woman staged a hunger strike outside the residence of Wardhannapet municipal chairperson Palakurthi Sarangapani on Monday, alleging that his son Palakurthi Srikanth had promised to marry her after a three-year relationship but was now refusing.

The woman alleged that Srikanth had gained her trust with a promise of marriage and subsequently became physically intimate with her, but was now refusing to marry her.

She claimed that during the municipal elections, Sarangapani had assured her that the relationship should not become public and that he would get his son married to her after the election results were announced.

However, the woman said she did not receive justice even after the elections. She initially approached the police but alleged that no action was taken. She later approached Wardhannapet MLA K.R. Nagaraju, who, she said, also assured her that the marriage would be arranged.

With the issue remaining unresolved, the woman began the hunger strike outside the municipal chairperson’s residence.

“I will not move from here until Srikanth marries me. I will continue the protest even if I lose my life,” she said.

Local residents and representatives of Dalit organisations gathered at the spot in support of the woman, leading to tension in the area.

The woman’s supporters alleged that Sarangapani and his son had left the residence and were unavailable. Sarangapani’s family is yet to respond to the allegations.

The incident has led to discussion in Wardhannapet, with the woman alleging that the issue remained unresolved despite her approaching the police and receiving assurances from the MLA.
