Woman Harassed in Alkapur, Cops Trace Suspect

Officials added that if the accused is identified before the victim approaches police, legal opinion would be sought and a suo motu case considered to initiate formal investigation.

Hyderabad: A woman returning from school with her child was harassed in broad daylight near Pranati Eesha Apartment on Road No. 4 in Alkapur Township, Manikonda, under Narsingi police station limits, after a teenage boy reportedly approached her from behind, lifted her dress and fled. The incident, caught on CCTV, triggered concern over women’s safety in residential neighbourhoods.

The disturbing act, circulated on social media, was described by residents as a serious case of harassment rather than juvenile mischief. Police said no formal complaint has been filed by the victim so far, and her identity remains unknown. Despite this, teams have begun efforts to trace the accused seen in the footage.

Investigators said they are thoroughly analysing CCTV footage to map the suspect’s movements. “We have already verified nearly 50 to 60 connecting cameras but have not yet managed to trace the accused. We are still analysing additional cameras. We cannot miss even a second, so we are verifying everything thoroughly,” a police officer said.

Officials added that if the accused is identified before the victim approaches police, legal opinion would be sought and a suo motu case considered to initiate formal investigation.

The incident has highlighted the vulnerability of women in residential areas assumed to be safe. It follows a recent case where a woman jogger faced harassment on a cycle track, with police struggling to trace the suspect due to limited CCTV coverage.
