Woman Alleges Harassment, Threats by Man after Engagement Called Off
She later called off the engagement after he allegedly pressured her to pay the entire dowry in advance

Hyderabad: A 33-year-old insurance company deputy manager from Vanasthalipuram has alleged that a Tirupati-based man, whom she met through a dating app, cheated her of Rs. 15 lakh and later harassed and threatened her.
According to her, the man allegedly took the money claiming he wanted to set up a software company in the US to work on breast cancer medicines. The two got engaged in April, but she later called off the engagement after he allegedly pressured her to pay the entire dowry in advance.
The woman alleged that following the cancellation, he sent defamatory emails to her office and threatened to throw acid on her or kill her, forcing her to remain indoors.
Though she approached police in June, she claimed the harassment continued. On August 4, the man reportedly lodged a complaint against her with Tirupati police, who registered a case.
The woman approached Vanasthalipuram police the next day, alleging that the case against her was registered without hearing her side. Police are investigating the complaints filed by both sides.
