Wine Dealers Seek Ease of Trade Rules

The association suggested that all charges, except Retail Excise Tax and TCS, be included in the issue price of liquor.

Hyderabad: The Telangana Wine Dealers Association has urged the government to make changes in the upcoming excise policy to ease business for liquor shop owners.

In a letter to the prohibition and excise minister, the association suggested that all charges, except Retail Excise Tax and TCS, be included in the issue price of liquor. This, they said, would simplify billing, help shop owners file income tax returns properly and avoid audit complications.

They also requested that A-4 retail licences be allowed full transfer, as with bar licences, instead of requiring new entrants to join as partners, proposing a one-time transfer fee. On shop locations, the association asked for exemption within GHMC limits from the hospital distance rule, arguing it was practical for schools and temples but not hospitals.

They sought an increase in permit room size from 100 sq. m to 200 sq. m to ease crowding and align the excise year with the financial year (April–March). The association suggested extending the current licences till March 2026 for smoother tax compliance.

Finally, they asked for the Retail Excise Tax limit to be raised from 10 times to 14 times the licence fee and for the `5 lakh annual retail excise tax to be merged with the composite licence fee. The dealers said the changes would simplify taxation, reduce difficulties and not affect government revenue.

Study changing rainfall patterns in TG: MP

Hyderabad: Malkajgiri BJP MP Etala Rajendar has urged Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to commission a comprehensive study on changing rainfall patterns in Telangana. He said areas that once received only 2–3 cm of rain during the monsoon were now experiencing deluges of 30–40 cm in short spells, causing devastating floods.

Rajendar said thousands of acres of farmland had been submerged, destroying crops and leaving the farming community in crisis. He called for a detailed survey of the flood impact and urgent measures to support farmers.

He demanded immediate relief for those displaced from flood-hit areas and urged agencies such as HYDRAA to be fully deployed in rescue and rehabilitation. Rajendar also asked BJP leaders and workers to take part in relief operations and stand with flood-affected communities.
