Wildlife Worker Seeks Seizure Of Langurs Allegedly Kept In Captivity

Goutham alleged that one langur was kept captive at Konaipally and another was chained at Vattemula village: Reports

HYDERABAD: A wildlife welfare worker has sought the registration of a preliminary offence report (POR) and seizure of langurs allegedly kept in captivity at Konaipally, Vattemula and Vemulawada in Rajanna Sircilla district, after an earlier complaint on the same issue failed to result in their seizure.

Adulapuram Goutham, cruelty prevention manager with the Stray Animal Foundation of India submitted the complaint to the district forest officer for Karimnagar and Rajanna Sircilla districts on October 3.

Goutham alleged that one langur was kept captive at Konaipally and another was chained at Vattemula village. His complaint also alleged that the animals had been hired by the Vattemula village sarpanch in Vemulawada mandal.

“Last year, we submitted a complaint regarding the same issue. However, the langurs could not be seized at that time,” Goutham said.

He asked forest officials to inspect the locations and take action under the applicable wildlife protection laws.
