VHR Questions Kishan Reddy's Stance on Hyderabad Metro Phase-2 Works

Advisor to the Telangana Government, V Hanumantha Rao, on Monday questioned Union Minister G Kishan Reddy’s opposition to the Hyderabad Metro Rail project despite Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s repeated requests for Central support.

Hyderabad: Senior Congress leader and Advisor to the Telangana Government, V Hanumantha Rao, on Monday questioned Union Minister G Kishan Reddy’s opposition to the Hyderabad Metro Rail project takeover and second phase expansion works, despite Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s repeated requests for Central support. Speaking to reporters, Hanumantha Rao further questioned why the Centre was not extending the same support to the State that it provides to projects in Gujarat and Visakhapatnam.

On Monday, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy accused the Centre of creating hurdles in the release of the Rs 13,600-crore refinancing loan sanctioned by the Indian Railway Finance Corporation (IRFC) to the state government for the takeover of the Hyderabad Metro Rail project. Demanding clarity from the Centre on Hyderabad Metro Phase-II, the Chief Minister asked the BJP government to either facilitate the loan disbursement or issue a no-objection certificate (NOC) to allow the state government to independently execute Metro Rail expansion works.

VHR pointed out that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has repeatedly sought Centre’s cooperation for Telangana’s development. “On one side, our Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi says ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’. But you are helping only where your government is in power or where you support those parties. Where there is an opposition government, you do not help. This is unfair,” he said. "It is the duty of the Central government to help the states, so support Telangana’s development activities, he urged. VHR also warned that the Centre’s stance could have electoral consequences.
