We Were Treated Like Terrorists, Say State CJP Members

CJP members from Telangana detained in MP, released after 24 hours.

Hyderabad: Members of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) from Telangana alleged that police detained them for 24 hours while travelling from Secunderabad to New Delhi by train.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, CJP activists Mareddy Ranga Sai Reddy and Rajesh Korapaka alleged that more than 70 police personnel, including two IPS officers and 10 assistant commissioners of police (ACPs), were involved in their detention.

Another party member, Stanley Korani, was also detained along with them.

The activists alleged that police took them to different guest houses, kept them under constant surveillance, and denied them access to their mobile phones during the detention.

“On October 8 at around 6.30 pm, we left for New Delhi via train from Secunderabad railway station.

At Bhopal, around 40 police suddenly entered our coach and detained us.

We were treated like terrorists.

Everybody looked at us as if the police were arresting 26/11 terrorist Kasab,” Ranga Sai Reddy said.

Rajesh alleged that the police had been tracking their movements since they boarded the train at Secunderabad.

“At the railway station, along with the 40 officers, there were 30 more constables and many more in plain clothes.

They had photographs of us from the beginning, and they tracked us from the moment we got on the train in Secunderabad.

From the railway station, we were transported to an IPS officer’s guest house.

We were all locked up in a single room, and two police constables were inside the room with us, never leaving us from their sights.”

The activists said police took them for medical examinations around 2 am before shifting them to a guest house at a government university.

“IPS officers Ayush Gupta and Vivek Sharma were with us during our detention.

They took away our mobile phones and did not allow us to communicate, but our CJP volunteers were trying to track us down.

They went to every police station, but they did not find us since we were kept in guest houses,” they said.

The activists claimed police released them after 24 hours when they threatened to launch a hunger strike against the detention.

“Instead of releasing us then and there, they booked us train tickets to Warangal and stayed on the train with us until we crossed MP.

They tried to scare us, but they could not do so,” Ranga Sai Reddy said.
