We Cannot Survive Outside: Chenchu Tribals Urge Govt Against Eviction from Amrabad Tiger Reserve

Hyderabad:Chenchu tribals from the Amrabad Tiger Reserve (ATR) urged the government not to evict them from their forest homes, saying they would not be able to survive outside. Community members met officials at the Praja Vani programme in Hyderabad on Friday and said that they have lived in the forests for generations and are willing to coexist with wildlife.

They met Chief Minister’s Praja Vani in-charge Dr G. Chinna Reddy and explained their concerns. He assured them that the government would respect their wishes. Forest officials also clarified that there are no plans for forced eviction.

A joint meeting with officials and tribal representatives will be held soon to address the issue, Chinna Reddy said.
