Water Board Promises Fix At Kavuri Hills

On Monday, board managing director Ashok Reddy visited the area along with officials from GHMC and the irrigation department to review the situation.

Hyderabad: The HMWS&SB has promised a permanent solution to the sewage overflow problem at Kavuri Hills, near Durgam Cheruvu. Residents said sewage overflows whenever it rains, causing severe inconvenience.

On Monday, board managing director Ashok Reddy visited the area along with officials from GHMC and the irrigation department to review the situation. Officials explained that with continuous rain, the water level in Durgam Cheruvu had reached the full tank level (FTL), leading to sewage backflow.

The MD directed immediate desilting of sewerage lines to mitigate the problem and ordered long-term planning to manage heavy flows during the rainy season. Temporary measures were instructed until permanent works are completed.

Later, Ashok Reddy inspected the 7 million litres a day capacity sewage treatment plant (STP) near Durgam Cheruvu. He reviewed the treatment process, checked the inlet and outlet points and visited the SCADA room that monitors the plant’s functioning online. He said a central dashboard would be set up at Water Board headquarters to track real-time inflows, treatment quality and STP performance across the city. He also instructed that STP premises be kept clean, greenery developed and beautification works taken up.
