WARANGAL: Thanks to strong demand for memorable registration numbers, the Warangal district transport department generated unprecedented revenue in a two-day secret online auction held on July 11 and 12. RTO officials had set a base price of ₹50,000 for desirable numbers such as 9, 99, 999 and 9999, but intense bidding drove final totals far higher.
The top bid came from Harsha Vardhan Reddy, contractor and proprietor of Harsha Construction in Hyderabad, who paid ₹11,09,999 for TG 24A 9999. Konda Susmitha Patel, daughter of endowments minister Konda Surekha, secured 0009 for ₹5,72,999. Other notable sales included 0001 for ₹1,11,111 and 0003 for ₹86,000.
