Warangal Records Over 80% Turnout in First-Phase Panchayat Polls

Ahead of polling, a significant number of positions across the united districts were filled unanimously. Forty-four Sarpanch posts and over 1,100 ward member posts were elected unopposed, indicating broad consensus in many Gram Panchayats.

Warangal: The first phase of Gram Panchayat elections concluded smoothly in the erstwhile Warangal districts, registering an impressive 80.7% voter turnout on Thursday. Polling was held from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., with enthusiastic participation from youth, elderly and senior citizens across all six united districts.

Mahabubabad recorded the highest polling at 82.54%, followed by Jayashankar Bhupalpally (82.26%) and Hanamkonda (81.39%), reflecting strong rural interest in choosing local representatives. Election staff allowed all voters already in queues by closing time to cast their ballots, contributing to the high final turnout.

District election officers and the Police Commissioner undertook extensive field inspections to ensure a smooth and secure polling process.

Warangal district collector Satya Sharada visited multiple polling centres, reviewing voter facilities, staff deployment and security arrangements, and stressed the need to provide a comfortable and interruption-free experience to every voter.

Hanamkonda district collector Sneha Shabarish monitored turnout trends and security conditions while overseeing preparations for counting, which began soon after polling ended. She directed officials to complete the process swiftly and transparently, emphasising discipline and strict adherence to election rules.

Warangal police commissioner Sunpreet Singh inspected several polling stations and issued guidance to personnel on maintaining law and order.
