Warangal: Ilamma’s Struggle Against Bonded Labour Remembered
Naini said Ilamma’s fight against the dominance of feudal landlords, exploitation and bonded labour had become a symbol of Telangana’s self-respect.
Warangal: The 131st birth anniversary of Telangana armed struggle veteran Chakali Ilamma was observed across the erstwhile Warangal district on Saturday.
Public representatives, officials, political leaders and representatives of Rajaka associations paid floral tributes to her statues at several places in Warangal and Hanamkonda districts.
At New Shayampet in Hanamkonda, MLAs Naini Rajender Reddy, Revuri Prakash Reddy and Nagaraju, along with Hanamkonda collector Chahat Bajpai, Warangal collector Satya Sharada and GWMC commissioner Venkanna, paid tributes to Ilamma.
Naini said Ilamma’s fight against the dominance of feudal landlords, exploitation and bonded labour had become a symbol of Telangana’s self-respect.
He called upon the youth to draw inspiration from her struggle for the rights of marginalised communities, social justice and equality.
In Warangal, BJP senior leader and former corporator Narlagiri Ramalingam led a programme at Chakali Ilamma crossroads, where BJP state leader Rao Amarender Reddy paid tributes.
He said Ilamma’s struggle for land, livelihood and self-respect had left an enduring mark on the people’s movement.
Narlagiri Ramesh, Gabbeta Seenu, Kondra Shankar and Dalapathi were among those who participated.
