War Affects Ordinary People the Most, Say Veterans

Hyderabad: Veteran soldiers, having three generations of association with the Indian Army, called for peace as war affects ordinary people the most, while the rich and the powerful largely remain safe.
“Wars don’t affect the rich or the powerful; it is civilian people who suffer and die. War takes lives, peace gives life,” said 69-year-old ex-serviceman Emmanuel Francis.
“My father and elder brother were in the army. I joined, too, but had to return due to health issues. Back then, things were different, life was simpler. Now everything has changed,” he said.
Mark Anthony, a 69-year-old former musician in the Indian Army’s Armoured Corps at Ahmednagar, proudly traces his military roots back three generations.
“People are angry on both sides. But war only destroys. It’s better if everyone listens to God’s word, peace is better for the whole world,” he said. “Everyone has pain, but war is not always a solution; it’s not healthy. This is not the future we wanted,” he added.
