Waqf Tribunal Says Data Can Be Uploaded till Jan 3
The tribunal noted that mutawallis could start uploading any data after the rules are notified.

Hyderabad: Mutawallis of Waqf institutions should file petitions seeking more time to file assets, and not associations the Telangana Waqf Tribunal has clarified. It also said that the Waqf Amendment Act was effective from July 3, the date the Centre released the gazette, and petitions seeking time were premature. It indicated that the six-month period set by the Centre would lapse on January 3 next.
According to the tribunal order, the amended provisions required Mutawallis to upload details of properties within six months of the Act coming into force on April 8, the portal was launched only on June 6 and the rules were notified in the gazette on July 3.
The tribunal noted that mutawallis could start uploading any data after the rules are notified. Therefore the six-month deadline should be counted from July 3. This indicates that the deadline is January 3.
The tribunal said, from this point of view, the petition seeking time was premature.
Waqf Board member Syed Bandagi Badshah said the judgment of the tribunal was a ray of hope, giving mutawallis another month to upload data of properties.
The tribunal was adjudicating on an application filed by the Association of Telangana Sajjadanasheen Mutawalli and Khidmatguzaran of Waqfs represented by Syed Akbar Nizamuddin Hussaini, seeking the extension of time for uploading the details of the Waqf Institutions in the UMEED Portal.
The tribunal said mutawallis of Waqf institutions were mandated to fill up the details or upload the data and they have to seek extension of time, not the association.
