Waqf Board Clarifies Survey Error, Relief For Malkajgiri Owners
The issue arose due to an error in Waqf property records in which several survey numbers actually pertaining to Mallapur village were shown as belonging to Malkajgiri.
HYDERABAD: Nearly 10,000 property owners in the Malkajgiri area can now heave a sigh of relief as the Telangana Waqf Board identified errors in the inclusion of certain survey numbers in the 22A‑prohibited list that barred them from buying or selling property.
The issue arose due to an error in Waqf property records in which several survey numbers actually pertaining to Mallapur village were shown as belonging to Malkajgiri. This caused difficulties for property owners in registration and other transactions. Following submission of documentary evidence and official records, the Waqf Board clarified the distinction between survey numbers belonging to Malkajgiri and those belonging to Mallapur.
In a communication dated July 29, the board recorded that survey Nos. 3, 103, 104, 105, 145, 146, 147 and 148 to 154 belong to Mallapur, whereas the other survey numbers mentioned in the gazette notification belong to Malkajgiri. The commissioner and inspector general of registration and stamps had sought clarification and verification of the Waqf property list.
After examination, the board forwarded the matter for correction and publication of the modification in the official gazette. It also pointed out differences between Waqf notifications published in Gazette Nos. 35 of August 27, 1987, 37 of September 13, 2001 and the Gazette dated June 29, 1989, which require reconciliation and rectification.
Residents said the development was a major relief as their properties had been placed on the prohibited list despite no fault on their part.
“This happened in 2024 and we immediately alerted the Waqf Board. We collected the relevant Gazettes and submitted them, seeking removal of the properties from the prohibited list,” said B.T. Srinivasan, general secretary of United Federation Welfare Associations.
Subramanyam, a resident of Devinagar, said he learnt of the issue when he applied for an encumbrance certificate. “I learnt that I could not sell the property as it was on the prohibited list. This is a major relief, though the clearance process may take another month,” he said.
