Hyderabad voters reported difficulties with the SIR process, including missing names in 2002 electoral rolls, Aadhaar mismatches and English-only enumeration forms.
People in Hyderabad have been facing several problems with filling enumeration forms for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, which include difficulty in searching their names in the 2002 electoral rolls
Of these issues, finding one’s name in the 2002 electoral roll has become a major hurdle for the voters. Some voters got the entire list of all the electors in the Assembly constituency in 2002 by searching their names. BLAs helped some of them in finding some of their names in the list. However, others, whose names couldn’t be found in the 2002 roll, were told that they will receive a notice from the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) and they need to reply to it.
A BLO told an elector, whose residence was shifted, to wait for the ERO notice. As per norms, the voter should get the form if his name was present in the electoral rolls, even if he has shifted his residence.
“In Amberpet, I was asked to wait for notice from ERO, but another official immediately intervened, took cognizance and I was able to fill the form,” said an elector.
Tellapur Neighbourhood Association (TeNA) president Eswarigari Ramana said that forms of a couple staying in the same house were distributed at two different places. While the husband's form was given at one place, the wife's form was given by another team at a different place.
Voters could fill the enumeration form online if their names — both given name and surname — in the electoral roll and Aadhaar cards match exactly. "In my colony, a voter’s Aadhaar card had his full name, but the voter card had just the initial of the surname, which will lead to the rejection of the form,” said a resident from Road No. 10, Gayatri Hills in Jubilee Hills.
Another major issue that people in Hyderabad district, especially those living in slums, was the distribution of enumeration forms printed in English.
