Violence at Kakatiya varsity as seniors, juniors clash
Eyewitnesses reported that the altercation spread outside the mess, with fistfights near the girls’ hostel creating a climate of fear. Several students sustained injuries and were taken to a local hospital

WARANGAL: A minor dispute in the university’s common mess hall escalated into a street fight at the Kakatiya University campus. The clash began when third-year Integrated Chemistry students accused second-year students of disrespect, leading to a physical brawl.
Several students sustained injuries during the altercation and were taken to a local hospital. Eyewitnesses reported chaotic scenes inside the mess hall and near the girls’ hostel, where heated confrontations and chasing ensued, creating an atmosphere of fear on campus.
University police quickly intervened, detaining 10 senior and eight junior students and registering a case. An investigation into the incident is underway.
Amid the turmoil, students from other departments have alleged that the five-year Integrated Chemistry programme fosters a culture of dominance and ragging. They claim that senior Chemistry students exploit their longer tenure to intimidate peers from shorter courses — a practice they say has been overlooked by university officials.
In response, vice-chancellor Prof. K. Prathap Reddy and registrar Prof. V. Ramachandram convened a meeting with department heads and officials to address the unrest. An inquiry committee comprising faculty members has been formed to investigate the incident and recommend disciplinary action. The university is also consulting with police regarding unauthorised student housing and plans to install CCTV cameras in strategic locations to enhance campus security.
