Vijay Devarakonda Appears Before ED in Illegal Betting App Case

Hyderabad: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday questioned Tollywood actor Vijay Devarakonda for four hours in connection with a case involving the alleged promotion of betting apps. Officials examined his bank statements to verify any suspicious transactions.
Vijay arrived at the ED office in Basheerbagh around 10.30 am, accompanied by his legal advisors, and submitted bank records and other documents. According to sources, the agency grilled him over his association with apps accused of financially exploiting young people, focusing on whether he had promoted such platforms.
Explaining about the PMLA cases which were registered by the ED, the officials reportedly questioned the actor on alleged cash transactions for promoting online betting Apps.
Speaking to the media after the four-hour-long questioning, Vijay denied any role in promoting betting platforms. “I only promoted a gaming app that is officially used for IPL and other cricket matches. I have submitted my bank statement to the investigation agency for consideration,” he said. He added that some individuals had falsely claimed he promoted betting apps. “I clarify again. I never promoted any betting app and will not do so,” he said.
Earlier, the ED had questioned actor Prakash Raj in connection with the same case. Actor Rana Daggubati has been asked to appear on August 11, and Manchu Lakshmi on August 13. Rana has sought more time, and the agency has rescheduled his appearance. Officials said they had obtained data indicating that some celebrities promoted betting apps in exchange for large sums of money obtained illegally.
