Hyderabad: Commuters move amid rainfall, in Hyderabad, Telangana, Saturday, July 19, 2025.
Continuous heavy rainfall over the past 24 hours has battered several districts of Telangana, with Venkatapuram (Tahsildar Office) in Mulugu district receiving the highest rainfall at 213.3 mm (21.3 cm), according to official data from the Telangana Development Planning Society (TGDPS).
Several villages in Venkatapuram mandal were marooned, and the Venkatapuram-Bhadrachalam road remained submerged, cutting off transport links and forcing locals to spend the night in inundated homes.
Other major rainfall figures from the region include:
• Manigapet (Mulugu): 118.0 mm
• Eturunagaram (Mulugu): 103.8 mm
• Alubaka(Z) (Venkatapuram): 99.5 mm
• Bejjur (Kumuram Bheem): 92.8 mm
• Wazeed (Mulugu): 81.3 mm
• GM Office-Manuguru (Bhadradri Kothagudem): 69.8 mm
Flooding disrupted coal production in several mines operated by Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL), particularly in Peddapalli and Bhadradri Kothagudem districts. The Yellandu open-cast mine was inundated, halting daily production of over 3,500 tonnes.
Karimnagar town also saw heavy rain, with Karimnagar (Collectorate) recording 46.8 mm, leading to flooding in homes and commercial areas.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Mulugu, Adilabad, Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Jayashankar Bhupalapally, and Bhadradri Kothagudem, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall.
A yellow alert is in place for Karimnagar, Warangal, Khammam, Mahabubabad, Jangaon, Peddapalli, Hanamkonda, Vikarabad, Nizamabad, and others.
Rainfall has also affected Hyderabad, prompting Cyberabad Police to advise IT companies to switch to Work from Home (WFH) mode on July 23, citing concerns over traffic, safety, and emergency response.
